i've been known to dj from time to time.
i do crossfades between non-rhythmic sections or start on a beat after the previous song ends.
this is not just "playing records" or "hitting the play button" - i do pitch shifting and other tricks to keep things interesting and keep the flow.
i go by feel and use my instinct as a musician. most often i use long ambient intros or play two or more songs simultaneously.
movie dialogue and comedy samples also make their way in. i see this kind of mixing as creative juxtaposition.
lately i've been moving closer to creating new pieces out of odd mixes and snippets of disparate records that don't normally go together, or i might just play it straight.
sometimes it's mostly one type of music, sometimes it morphs very slowly from style to style, sometimes i like to jump from genre to genre to mess with expectations.

if given access to a dual CD deck and even a turntable or two, i'm still up for it.
